About the club

The Club is about sporting competition fun and friendship for all.

It is situated at the end of Marbles Road not far from the village green. (see Finding Us). It is integral to the village and joining the Club is an excellent means for those moving into Newick to get involved with village life.

The Club has a proud history, having been established in 1911. Click on History to know more.

We play flat green bowls through the summer months at all levels from informal games, through friendly matches with other clubs, to more serious and competitive Club, County and National competitions. We play short mat bowls in the Pavilion in the winter.

We are a mixed club which welcomes all abilities and ages. The Club is fully organised for the proper supervision and protection of those under 18, and runs fun friendly sessions for children (8 and over) wishing to learn the basics of the game with a view to them becoming fully integrated members.

Our green has six rinks and is of a very high standard in a delightful setting. Facilities include a pleasant Pavilion with a bar and dining area, changing rooms and covered areas to enable those watching to be protected from the heat of the summer sun!

Coaching at all levels is offered as a free service to beginners and members. Beginners can borrow all the equipment they need to start them on the road. See the Come and Join Us section for guidance on when you can come and have a go.

With a £50 first year subscription, second hand bowls (a good way to start) borrowed from the Club or purchased from around £50, bowls shoes, a shirt/blouse and grey trousers/skirt you can get under way at quite modest cost.

So much for the sporting competition but a little more about the fun and friendship. The Club organises a wide range of social activities for members to enjoy and engage with friends. These include quizzes, barbeques, skittles and racing nights, a Christmas party and an Annual Dinner.

We would love to hear from you see the Finding Us section.
